PRESS RELEASE

KARACHI: The Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) on Saturday strongly condemned the Indian government’s move to withhold access to the X (formerly Twitter) accounts of several Pakistani journalists within India, calling it a blatant act of censorship and a violation of press freedom.

“The decision by Indian authorities to block the voices of Pakistani journalists is deeply concerning and sets a dangerous precedent for media freedom in the region,” said Hamid Ur Rehman, President of KUJ. “Journalists play a vital role in informing the public, and such actions undermine the fundamental principles of free expression and the right to information.”

KUJ General Secretary Syed Nabil Akhter added, “Targeting journalists across borders under the guise of legal frameworks such as the Information Technology Act is nothing short of transnational suppression. We urge international media bodies and press freedom advocates to take notice and demand accountability.”

The KUJ called on the Indian government to reverse the move and allow unhindered access to journalistic content.
