The Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor), under the leadership of President Hamid Ur Rehman, Secretary General Syed Nabil Akhtar, and the governing body members, strongly condemns the forced termination of journalists from 92 Newspaper. This unjust action comes when journalists are already battling severe economic challenges, making it an especially tragic and inhumane decision.
President Hamid Ur Rehman expressed his grave concern over this move’s dire impact on the affected journalists and their families. He stated, “In these challenging economic times, when journalists are already struggling to make ends meet, this heartless decision by 92 Newspaper not only violates their basic rights but also deepens the crisis faced by media professionals. The management must immediately reconsider and reverse this decision for justice and humanity.”
Secretary General Syed Nabil Akhtar added that the forced layoffs have pushed already burdened journalists to the brink of survival. “We demand that 92 Newspaper immediately reinstate the terminated journalists. In these unprecedented economic crises, no journalist should be forced to choose between their profession and their livelihood,” he said.
The governing body members of KUJ have also expressed their concerns, highlighting the critical role of journalists in sustaining the flow of unbiased information, especially during sensitive times. They collectively emphasized that media professionals should be protected, not targeted by unjust policies.
In light of this grave injustice, President Hamid Ur Rehman, Secretary Syed Nabil Akhtar, and the KUJ governing body members call upon the Information Minister, the Prime Minister, and other relevant authorities to take immediate action against this cruel and illegal move by the newspaper’s management. They also demand immediate compensation for the affected journalists and their reinstatement to ensure their livelihoods are safeguarded.
The Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) will continue to stand firm in its support of all media professionals and will take all necessary actions to ensure that the rights of journalists are upheld. The union warns that such actions by media organizations will not go unchallenged and urges 92 Newspaper to act responsibly by protecting its workforce during this critical time.
