KUJ (Dastoor) Demands Urgent Salary Payments for Journalists
- Media Houses Failing to Pay Salaries for Two Months Amid Ramadan
- Journalists Face Financial Hardships Due to Salary Delays
- KUJ (Dastoor) Urges Government to Enforce Salary Payment Rules
- Protests Planned if Journalists’ Salaries Are Not Paid Immediately
Karachi (Press Release) – President of the Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor), Hamid ur Rehman, and Secretary Syed Nabeel Akhtar have strongly condemned the non-payment of salaries to journalists working at Jang, Nai Baat, Ummat, Aik News, and several other media organizations.
They have urged an immediate resolution of this issue and called on the federal and provincial ministries of information, as well as the Chairman of PEMRA, to take urgent notice of the situation.
The KUJ (Dastoor) leadership announced plans for protests outside the offices of these media houses if salaries are not restored immediately. They highlighted that the delay in payments during the holy month of Ramadan has caused immense difficulties for journalists, affecting their ability to afford Sehri and Iftar, pay their children’s school fees, and cover household expenses.
Instead of providing additional benefits to employees during Ramadan, these organizations have failed to pay salaries for two consecutive months.
The leaders further demanded that the federal and provincial information ministries ensure the enforcement of their decision to link government advertisements with timely salary payments. They urged authorities to pressure media houses into releasing journalists’ pending salaries without further delay.
KUJ (Dastoor) warned that if the salaries are not paid during Ramadan, they will call for protests outside the offices of these organizations.
