The Karachi Union of Journalists Dastoor (KUJ) has strongly condemned the abduction of Syed Muhammad Askari, a senior reporter of Daily Jang, who was kidnapped by unidentified armed men on Sunday night.

The KUJ (Dastoor) president and secretary in a joint statement said that this was an attack on the freedom of the press and demanded the immediate and safe recovery of Askari. The KUJ also urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take swift action against the perpetrators and ensure the protection of journalists in the country.

Syed Muhammad Askari was reportedly brought into custody by law enforcement and officials disguised as civilians, as reported by various news outlets.

KUJ Dastoor has asked the federal and provincial governments to take this situation seriously and take measures for the early return of Syed Muhammad Askari; otherwise, journalists will be compelled to take direct action. If the matter is not taken seriously and measures are not taken, journalists will be forced to take other actions.
